Easy Pantry Activity

To Let You Make Lunch

Sometimes You Just Need to Keep Them Busy

This morning my three-year-olds were yelling and fighting and asking for attention no matter what they were playing or watching on TV. My husband was sleeping and I needed to get Robin’s lunch made before school. Then I remembered Old Faithful. This activity has worked at every age so far. The kids both became engaged in it and stayed engaged for 20 minutes. No fighting.

Steps to Kitchen Pantry Activity:

  1. Pour literally any dry substance from your pantry into a baking dish. I used steel cut oats.
  2. Add a few cups and toy cars.
  3. Let the kids play.
  4. When they start to get bored, pour in something else. I like using red lentils to add colour.
  5. When they start to get bored of that, add one more thing. I used green lentils.
  6. When they are done, sweep up, and store in a plastic bag for next time.
