Lemon Juice Shots

Okay, so to put this into context, it was a really long pandemic lockdown. I missed going out to see friends and I had a lot of time to fill with the kids. I don’t really recall how this game started. Sometimes I take shots of lemon juice to aid digestion. I’m betting the kids asked to try some, and the rest is history. You could totally do this game with anything you need the kids to drink though, like carrot juice or smoothies. I even once took a shot of pickle juice in solidarity with my niece when she had to take some nasty medicine. It helped. Shots just bring people together.

The Shots Game

First I use my handy lemon juicer to fill four shot glasses.

Then I put on the “Shots” song by LMFAO ft Lil Jon, being careful to only sing along to the part that goes, “Shots shots shots!” There is a clean version, but there’s still a lot to explain if you really listen to the lyrics. I know I never paid attention to lyrics as a kid!

We all cheers.

Then take our shots. The kids may down it all, or sip it little by little.

Then we go around showing each other our sour faces. That’s the part that really entertains them.

Then we start again. One modification of the game the kids particularly enjoyed was when I added a chaser. Inspired by the Lemon Drop shot I used to order in bars, we sliced lemon, coated it in sugar, and used that as the chaser. Unfortunately that sometimes leads to more sugar licking than anything else.

Conclusion

It’s nice getting to use my “life of the party” persona with my kids. It’s not the most wholesome activity, but it’s fun for all of us and full of nutrients! Someday they’ll listen to the words of the Shots Song and feel pretty weird that it reminds them of their mom. But no matter what, my kids are gonna be pros at taking shots when they get to University. And it’s never too early to start preparing for higher education.
