The Nerdiest Way I Have Ever Expressed My Love
My dad is a Physics Engineer who worked at a nuclear power plant for 30 years, then retired to become a math and physics teacher by the time I was a teenager. My grade 12 classes were mostly science and math so I took advantage of my at-home tutor Dad. That year, for Father’s Day, I took a page out of Weird Al’s book and changed the words to A Long December by Counting Crows. I used physics and math concepts as metaphors for my love. When I went away to university I played it for a lot of my science and math major friends and we all had a good laugh.
A few years ago I asked my dad to record some guitar songs for me. He didn’t like listening to them himself because he only focused on his mistakes. I reassured him that his mistakes didn’t matter to me in the slightest. Each song transported me back to the comfort of my childhood. This song isn’t perfect either, but it’s the best I can do with my limited energy. I’m sure my dad will feel the same way about it as I do about his songs.
Note: Make sure to break up the skewers before throwing them out, or you will end up with a hole in the bag and garbage water all over the bottom of your garbage bin.
