Ivory soap is quite inexpensive and keeps my hands from cracking in the winter, so I usually have quite a few bars on hand. It also puffs up nicely to make “Cloud Soap” when microwaved for 1-2 minutes. The other day I (surprise surprise) needed to get some dishes done, so I gave each kid a bar of soap and a butter knife and told them to carve something. Their carvings didn’t look like much, but they worked away for a while at it.

They even came back to it the next morning.

When I was sure they were done carving, I microwaved the ruminants to make cloud soap. The little bits didn’t puff up, but enough of it did that it was still fun.

Especially for this guy:

Technically you can let them play with cloud soap in the bath afterward, but I don’t recommend it. It got all over my bathtub and took me a while to clean off, which defeats the purpose of finding something to do while I make the house less messy.
