‘Twas the Night Before Trixmas

A Very Wary Trixmas to You.

When I was a young adult, my sister, Chrissy, had being going through a tough time. Her difficulties inspired her to be charitable. In fact, she requested all her Christmas gifts that year be charity donations. My other sister, Kathy, loved giving generous gifts, but wanted to give Chrissy something fun, like clothes. She thought Chrissy deserved a gift for herself. After a heated argument, they each came to me separately with plans to prank their other sister. Chrissy pretended she was giving Kathy a charity donation for Christmas, but actually got her clothes. Kathy pretended she was buying Chrissy clothes, but actually gave her a charity donation. As the only people who knew about both pranks, Rich and I decided to invent a new holiday. We called it Trixmas. We pranked everyone in the family that year. Rich even composed a poem to read on Trixmas Eve, which I illustrated. This poem has become part of our traditions, and we have continued the Trixmas spirit with our own children. Robin found out this year that there is a similar book called, “The Night Before Christmas.” Weird, right?

Note: You may notice the spelling of “Trixmas” has changed over the years. After consulting with experts, it has been decided that both spellings are correct.
